The Birtish government today gave a cautious reaction to the suicides of three detainees at the Guantanomo Bay camp in Cuba, but one former inmate said he was not surprised at the deaths.

"This is a sad incident but we should wait for the outcome of the investigation," a spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Blair's Downing Street office told AFP.

Meanwhile Shafiq Rasul, one of nine British citizens who were held at Guantanamo Bay, told Shy News television today he was "shocked" when he heard that three detainees had taken their own lives at the Guantanamo Bay camp.
