Sri Lanka will likely call on veteran batsman Sanath Jayasuriya to face England in the third Test starting on Friday at Trent Bridge.
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene, whose team trails 1-0 in the three-match series, said on Thursday that Jayasuriya would bat at No 6 or No 7 if he were picked, rather that coming in at the top of the order. "There is a very good chance of him playing," Jayawardene said. "If we have Sanath, it gives us a little bit more depth in our batting, a bit more experience, and a different variation to our attack."
Jayasuriya came out of test-match retirement to join the touring party during the drawn match at Lord's. He cut and dislocated his right thumb taking a catch in last test against Pakistan in April and was originally scheduled to join the Sri Lanka squad for five one-day matches after this test series.
Jayasuriya comes in for Thilan Samaraweera while Chamara Kapugedera replaces Nuwan Kulasekara. Nuwan Zoysa was named in the 12-man squad.
